Delicious & Simple Homemade Granola

I’m calling on all the women who are tired of spending $4 to $8 on granola just to discover that they don’t like it, that an ingredient is missing, or that they would much rather add their own preferred toppings for a far lower cost. Not to mention, you can use the leftovers for snacks throughout the week! If you’re that woman, this is the spot for you!

There have been quite a few friends and family members who have asked me for this recipe over the last few months and so i thought it would be so rude of me not to share it with you! This blog will equip you with different ways you can make this granola to suit your preferences.

For my ingredients i use, with measurements, see the recipe down below.

First up, your oats, the main part of your granola! Now, don’t worry if you have coeliac disease, a gluten intolerance, or a wheat intolerance. My husband has coeliac disease, and he can still enjoy this granola; we simply substitute with wheat-free oats. These are available at your local woolworths.

“I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.”

Genesis 1:29

Next up is the rest of your dry ingredients, including nuts, seeds, cinnamon/cinnamon sugar, and brown sugar. If you’re like me and only usually have salted cashews on hand (or any nut for that matter) you can simply soak them in water and strain them of their salt. Don’t worry too much if there is still a little salt left on them as this adds to the flavour!

Once we have combined all the dry ingredients, we proceed to add the wet ingredient, which is simply honey! Now, I’ve added a little note in the recipe about this, but in case you miss it, sometimes it can look like you need to add more honey than the recipe states, but trust me, just be patient and keep stirring. Soon enough, you will have a lovely sticky mixture.

Next, pat down the granola into it’s prepared tray, ensuring more clusters when it is pressed firmly. Also, to guarantee that the granola is cooked well, pay attention to evenness as well when spreading it out on the tray.

“Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians 10:31

When removing it from the oven for the first time, turn the granola over. By doing this, you can make sure the mixture is cooked on both sides when you put it back in the oven. You’ll notice there aren’t any clumps yet- this will happen once you pop it in the oven for a second time- so pat that baby down tight!

Done! Once it is fully cooled, I like to either pop it in the refrigerator to dry out and then store it in an airtight container for longer periods or I just skip the refrigerator step, knowing it’ll be gone within 3 days. Don’t forget to add any toppings you want! Sometimes I’ll add some sneaky chocolate chips or some refreshing berries- the choices are endless!

Well I hope you loved my first recipe on my blog! Let me know if you’d like to see more down below in the comments!

Enjoy!

THERE IS NO EASIER GRANOLA YOU CAN MAKE! This Granola is one that you can fully customise and add your own toppings too! It can be used as muesli cereal or an on-the-go snack, a perfect pantry staple! If you’re a beginner, this is a great recipe to start you off, as it is so simple and easy to create.

Ingredients

  • Dry Ingredients:
  • 4 cups rolled oats

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 3 tbsp cinnamon sugar

  • Nuts & Seeds: (substitute as desired)
  • 1/2 cup almonds

  • 1/2 cup unsalted cashews

  • Wet Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup honey

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius. Line baking tray with baking paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients: oats, brown sugar, nuts, seeds and cinnamon sugar. (Tip: if you’re adding chocolate chips or frozen berries, don’t add them until last otherwise they will melt!)
  • Add in your wet ingredient: honey.
  • Pat down the granola onto the prepped pan tightly and as evenly as possible.
  • Bake for 15 minutes. Then take the tray out, while keeping the oven warm, to turn the granola. Pat the granola down again tightly and evenly. Bake for another 15 minutes or until golden.
  • Let it completely cool and break apart carefully.
  • Optional: refrigerate to dry out the clusters, then add the granola to a container.

Notes

  • Ingredients: This recipe is what i usually do to create my own granola. I know, it is extremely simple and that is honestly what i love about it. I understand everyones taste bids will be different so feel to tweak this recipe as much as you need to. However, if you’re a beginner, this is a great recipe to start you off as it is so simple and easy to create.
  • Substitutions: I’ve added wheat-free oats before and it works well for anyone gluten-free or celiac. Chocolate chips are also great to add in as a sneaky treat for yourself or, if you’re in a pinch for a gift, you can always display this granola in a pretty glass jar with chocolate chips inside to make it just that little bit special. Both milk, dark and white chocolate works well- just make sure you add the chocolate chips last after the granola has cooled. Nut & seed options are endless, however i find ones that are natural and salt-free are best. However, if you’re in a pinch, I’ve washed salted cashews before (the only nuts i had in the pantry that day) and they worked just fine- the little salt inevitably still on them balanced the sweet honey nicely. You can also add fresh or frozen berries, again making sure you add them last after the granola has cooled.
  • Mixing the Honey: Take your time mixing. It might seem like there isn’t enough honey to combine all the dry ingredients, but believe me when I say that the more you stir, the more it will begin to clump together nicely.
